Fontaines D.C. have released a music video for their song ‘Bug’ from the new album Romance. The video was directed by filmmaker Andrea Arnold, known for movies like American Honey and Fish Tank. Arnold’s new film Bird, starring Barry Keoghan and Fontaines D.C.’s Carlos O’Connell, will be released on November 8. The music video for ‘Bug’ is described as a shortform reimagination of the film, featuring exclusive unseen footage. Watch it below.
“I’ve been a fan of Fontaines D.C. since I first heard them,” Arnold said. “Their music just resonates with me, like it’s always been a part of me. That’s why I used their songs ‘Too Real’ and ‘A Hero’s Death’ in my film Bird. Their music felt like it belonged in that world. They were generous in allowing me to use their tracks, and that energy translated into the film. Extending the imagery of Bird to the song ‘Bug’ felt natural, like it was meant to be. I wouldn’t have done it for anyone else.”
Carlos O’Connell added:
Andrea Arnold created a sequence for our song ‘Bug’ featuring Barry Keoghan as the character Bug in her film Bird.
‘Bug’ is a song that came together quickly and resonated with everyone immediately.
To me, the character Bug, his tattoo “Bug’s Life,” Andrea’s unique world, and the lyric ‘Changed my name to “Promise you, Yea”‘ all come together to create a powerful and undeniable connection.
A big thank you to Andrea Arnold for allowing us to be a part of her visionary universe. She will be remembered like Bacon or Goya.
