Fang Island Reveals Archival Box Set, Unveils Last Track ‘Starquake’

Fang Island, a math rock band originally from Brooklyn but now based in Providence, has announced the release of a box set that will encompass their entire discography. Titled Doesn’t Exist II: The Complete Recordings, the box set is scheduled to be released on December 13 by Joyful Noise. It will include both of the band’s full-length albums, Fang Island and Major, as well as a 12″ vinyl record featuring their 2007 EP Day of the Great Leap, their 2008 EP Sky Gardens, and demos of their debut EP Doesn’t Exist. Additionally, the band has unveiled a music video for their final song ‘Starquake’, directed by guitarist Chris Georges. The video can be viewed below.

An alternate version of ‘Starquake’ was originally released on a limited edition flexi-disc in 2014. This track will be included in the box set as part of an exclusive 7″ vinyl that also includes the collaboration with Andrew W.K. titled ‘Patterns on the Wall’. Although ‘Patterns on the Wall’ was written in 2006, it was not recorded until 2014 in one continuous take at Silent Barn’s Gravesend Studio in Brooklyn, New York.

“Despite its ominous beginning, the track eventually settles into a positive yet frenetic groove, revolving around a solid and reassuring core,” remarked singer-guitarist Jason Bartell. “With each revolution, another catchy embellishment is added, stretching and distorting the orbit until it can no longer maintain its shape, propelling into the vast unknown of space, only to discover a new harmonious resting place.”
