Iran’s top leader declares Hamas leader’s demise won’t stop ‘Axis of Resistance’

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei addressed a meeting in Tehran, Iran on September 25, 2024. The Office of the Iranian Supreme Leader released a statement in which Khamenei expressed his views on the recent death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

Khamenei emphasized that despite the loss of Sinwar, the “Axis of Resistance” would continue to persevere. He stated, “His loss is undoubtedly painful for the Axis of Resistance, but this front did not cease advancing with the martyrdom of prominent figures. Hamas is alive and will remain alive.”

Yahya Sinwar, who orchestrated the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, leading to the conflict in Gaza, was killed in a gunfight with Israeli forces after a year-long manhunt. Khamenei praised Sinwar as a symbol of resistance and valor, highlighting his pivotal role in confronting the enemy.

The “Axis of Resistance,” supported by Iran, consists of various groups including Hamas, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthi movement in Yemen, and Shi’ite groups in Iraq and Syria. These groups define themselves as opponents of Israeli and U.S. influence in the Middle East.

In his statement, Khamenei reiterated Iran’s unwavering support for fighters and combatants aligned with the Axis of Resistance, pledging continued assistance and solidarity.
