Printing and Packaging Center in Ludhiana Set to Commence Operations Soon

A new common facility center dedicated to the printing industry is set to begin operations in Ludhiana. The Modern Printing and Packaging Forum spearheaded the initiative, and the facility’s construction in Gaunspur village is complete. The center aims to revolutionize the local printing and packaging sector, offering competition to established hubs in Mumbai and Delhi. Currently, industry professionals from Ludhiana have to travel to these cities due to outdated machinery in the region.

Shellinder Shelly, a forum member, highlighted the need for modern equipment, stating that despite the forum having 27 members, non-members will also be able to utilize the facility. The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) approved the project in 2021. Project director Amarjot Arora mentioned that efforts are underway to make the center operational soon. The state government is expected to issue tenders for machines in the coming days.

In a related development, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is opening outdoor sports facilities at Roshanara Club, including lawn tennis, basketball, cricket, and mini-football, to non-members on a pay-and-play basis starting January 13. The move comes after DDA sealed the club in September 2023 due to expired leases.

Ludhiana’s textile industry has also witnessed positive changes with the establishment of the first Common Facility Center (CFC). The Integrated Apparel Technology and Facilitation Centre (IATFC), funded by the central and state governments, offers garment manufacturers access to cutting-edge technology and upgraded machinery at subsidized rates. This initiative is particularly beneficial for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, enhancing productivity and competitiveness.

Furthermore, the Department of Industry and Commerce, Punjab, is actively involved in reviving the sewing machine cluster in Ludhiana. The common facility center for this project is nearing completion, with only the procurement and installation of machines pending. The state government’s support is expected to modernize the cluster, bringing advanced technology to the sewing machine industry in Ludhiana.
