New location for the Manchester Marathon finish line outside Trafford

The next edition of the event in April 2025 will take place at the University of Manchester, closer to the city centre.

While Altrincham, Sale, Stretford, Timperley, and the surrounding areas are on the route, the finish line is now located on Oxford Road instead of within the borough. The organizers believe that this new finish line offers an “elite-level experience.”

The new location allows finishers to celebrate with their families and friends in the city centre. It is also conveniently located near the Metrolink and train stations such as Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Piccadilly.

It is currently unclear whether the half marathon will be affected by this change for its next event in October 2025.

According to the Manchester Marathon website, the new finish location provides direct access to the city centre, with numerous bars, restaurants, and shops nearby, as well as options within the event zones. Additionally, transport options are abundant, with Manchester Piccadilly just a 15-minute walk away.

Over 30,000 runners participated in the Manchester Marathon this year, raising millions for charities. Notable participants included Rugby League legend Kevin Sinfield, Olympian Dame Laura Kenny, and six men in a caterpillar costume who set a world record for the fastest marathon in such attire.

The event winners were Adam Clarke (02:16:29) in the men’s category, Charlie Arnell (02:37:14) in the women’s category, and Bret Crossley (1:50:35) in the wheelchair category, with over 120,000 spectators in attendance.
