The Met Office has warned of heavy rain and 80mph winds in certain areas, with the first named storm of the season posing a threat of injuries and danger to life.

A yellow warning for wind is in effect for Scotland, Northern Ireland, parts of north-west England, and Wales from 3am until midnight on Sunday.

An amber warning has been issued for the north-west of Scotland from 9am until midnight, with the risk of injuries and danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads and properties.

Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud has mentioned the likelihood of “very strong, severe gales” on Sunday coinciding with high spring tides, potentially leading to “very large waves”.

The north of Scotland will continue to be under a yellow wind warning from midnight until 9am on Monday.

In the south-west of England and South Wales, a yellow warning is in place until midday on Sunday with a risk of travel disruption, flooding, and power supply interruptions.

Mr Stroud also stated that gale force winds are expected to persist until Monday morning, possibly causing fallen debris and tree blockages for commuters.
