Located in Birmingham, the first series featured Detective Inspector Rachita Ray investigating the murder of a high-profile criminal.
The initial series concluded with a dramatic cliffhanger as Rachita was suspended by the chief of police pending further investigation.
The synopsis for the second series, according to What To Watch, states: “Two months following her suspension, DI Rachita Ray is back on duty after a fatal drive-by shooting outside a Birmingham hospital results in two deaths.
“One of the victims is Frank Chapman, the leader of a notorious local crime organization, while the other is a young nurse, Megan Parks, who is caught in the crossfire and killed.
“DI Ray finds herself in a race against time to uncover the truth about the shooting before the Chapman family seeks revenge, potentially sparking a gang war.
“Despite her work challenges, Rachita also contemplates filing an official complaint regarding the prejudice she is facing.”
As per the Radio Times, executive producer Madonna Baptiste expressed: “We are delighted that the unique blend of crime drama and racial issues in DI Ray resonated with ITV1 audiences.
“We are thrilled to produce a second series with our outstanding cast and crew, and we appreciate the support of ITV1 and the viewers.”
