Escaped Gaza: The exiles living in uncertainty

It has been 10 months since my family left Gaza, but we still carry the burden of loss and pain from the war, with all its excruciating details. Just before the anniversary of the conflict’s start, we faced the most harrowing eight hours of our lives. A video message from my wife’s cousin in Gaza revealed the terrifying reality they were facing, with tanks surrounding them and firing. The uncertainty and fear were overwhelming, causing my wife to collapse and lose consciousness. Despite our efforts to seek help, the situation remained dire. Eventually, after eight hours, they were allowed to evacuate, but tragically, it was too late for my aunt Wafaa, who succumbed to her injuries. The ongoing turmoil in Gaza has forced many to flee, seeking safety in other countries like Turkey and Egypt. The journey to find refuge has been fraught with challenges, but the hope of returning home remains strong. In Cairo, many Gazan refugees gather, sharing stories and memories of their homeland. Despite the hardships, they hold onto the belief that one day they will be able to rebuild and return to Gaza.
