Israeli prime minister’s residence targeted by drone while 50 killed in Gaza airstrikes

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a speech at the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 27, 2024.

According to reports, a drone was launched towards Netanyahu’s house in Israel, but fortunately, there were no casualties. This incident occurred as Iran’s supreme leader vowed that Hamas would continue its fight against Israel following the killing of the mastermind behind last year’s deadly attack on October 7.

Sirens sounded in Israel on Saturday morning, warning of incoming fire from Lebanon, including a drone that was launched towards Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in Caesarea. Thankfully, neither Netanyahu nor his wife were at home at the time, and no casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, more than 50 people, including children, were killed in Israeli strikes within less than 24 hours, as confirmed by hospital officials and an Associated Press reporter.

Israel’s military also reported that 55 projectiles were fired in two separate barrages at northern Israel from Lebanon on Saturday morning. Four people were injured, with one person sustaining moderate wounds from falling shrapnel.

In a tragic incident, a 50-year-old man was killed after being hit by shrapnel while sitting in his car in northern Israel due to the strikes. Additionally, Israel’s military confirmed the killing of Hezbollah’s deputy commander in Bint Jbeil, a town in southern Lebanon.

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, a Hamas ally supported by Iran, has escalated in recent weeks. Hezbollah announced its intention to launch a new phase of fighting by sending more guided missiles and drones into Israel.

On the other hand, tensions between Israel and Hamas in Gaza continue to rise, with both parties showing resistance to ending the conflict following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, expressed solidarity with Hamas, stating that the group would persist despite the loss of its leaders.

Since the death of Sinwar, Hamas has maintained its stance that hostages taken from Israel a year ago will not be released until a ceasefire is established in Gaza and Israeli troops withdraw. Israel, however, has vowed to continue its military operations until the hostages are released and has remained in Gaza to prevent Hamas from rearming.

The death of Sinwar, who orchestrated the 2023 raid on Israel, has further complicated the situation, leading to more deadly strikes in Gaza. The ongoing conflict has resulted in the destruction of homes, displacement of civilians, and a severe humanitarian crisis in the region.

Despite the challenges, there is hope that Sinwar’s death could pave the way for a resolution to the conflict. Families of hostages held in Gaza have called on the Israeli government to use this opportunity to restart negotiations for the release of their loved ones.
