Israel to target Hezbollah’s financial branch across all of Lebanon

Israel’s military has announced that it is now targeting Hezbollah’s financial arm in Lebanon and will be attacking numerous targets in Beirut and other areas. Subsequently, explosions were reported in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Evacuation warnings have been issued for southern Beirut, the eastern Bekaa valley, and parts of southern Lebanon.

The attacks will focus on al-Qard al-Hassan, a Hezbollah unit that provides financial services to operatives of the militant group and helps purchase arms. This organization, which is sanctioned by the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, plays a significant role in Lebanon, especially among the Shiite population.

David Asher, an expert on illicit financing, emphasized the impact of targeting AQAH, stating that it is a cash-based organization with significant accounts in Lebanese banks.

Al-Qard al-Hassan issued a statement in response to Israel’s decision to target them, calling it a sign of Israel’s “bankruptcy” and assuring customers that their funds are safe.

There was confusion caused by mislabeling a target in the Choueifat area south of Beirut by the Israeli military, leading to panic among residents.

The tensions between Israel and Hezbollah escalated into a full-scale war last month, with Israel deploying ground troops into Lebanon early this month.

Israel’s military actions came after U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed concerns about civilian casualties in Lebanon and urged Israel to reduce strikes, especially in and around Beirut.

Lebanon’s army reported three soldiers killed in an Israeli strike on their vehicle in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese army, while respected, lacks the power to impose its will on Hezbollah or defend against an Israeli invasion.
