The call has come from the local councilor Mike Cordingley, who represents residents near the Lostock Circle junction near the Trafford Center.
The Lostock and Barton ward councilor was contacted by people living in the 1950s-built flats on Moss Vale Crescent, a stone’s throw from the roundabout, after they were fined for parking on the pavement.
According to Cllr Cordingley, the residents parked on the pavement to make it easier for the traffic moving in both directions to pass.
“There have been numerous incidents of road rage and people losing it,” he said. “All the residents were trying to do was make it easier for vehicles to get by.
“The problem is that they have not allocated parking. So, as a result of the fines, they are now parking on the road, which is making it more difficult for traffic because it is quite narrow.”
Moss Vale Crescent is one of the roads which feeds onto the Lostock Circle roundabout and at rush-hour is extremely busy.
Cllr Cordingley went on: “I’m not for one minute blaming the officer who booked the residents for parking wholly on the pavement.
“After all, it’s important for people with prams and those in a wheelchair to be able to get along the pavement.
“I just think what is required is a little tolerance and understanding from motorists. It’s not good to shout and scream at people.
“After all, the people living in those flats have nowhere else to park.”
