Timothée Chalamet makes a surprise appearance at his own doppelgänger competition in New York City.

Timothée Chalamet surprised attendees at his own lookalike contest in lower Manhattan on Sunday, which attracted a large crowd and led to a police order to disperse, resulting in at least one arrest.

Accompanied by bodyguards, the actor posed for photos with his double – individuals with high cheekbones and curly hair, some dressed as characters he has portrayed in movies like Willy Wonka and Paul Atreides from Dune. Fans showered attention on the lookalikes, mistaking them for the real Chalamet.

This event, promoted through flyers in New York, was part of a series of lookalike contests organized by YouTuber Anthony Po. As the news spread on social media, thousands RSVP’d for the event, with a $50 prize awaiting the winner.

However, shortly after the contest began – and before Chalamet’s arrival – the police instructed the large gathering to disperse from Washington Square Park, and the organizers were fined $500 for holding an “unauthorized costume contest”. One participant was even taken into custody, though no reason was immediately provided by the authorities.

“What started as a lighthearted joke quickly escalated into chaos,” remarked Paige Nguyen, a producer for the YouTube personality.

The aspiring Chalamets and onlookers relocated to another park.

On a makeshift stage, the lookalikes were questioned about their supposed romantic involvement with Kylie Jenner, who is rumored to be dating Chalamet. They were also tested on their French language skills and asked how they would contribute to making the world a better place.

Ultimately, the audience voted for a winner: Miles Mitchell, a college senior from Staten Island. Clad in a purple Willy Wonka costume, he distributed candy from a briefcase to the enthusiastic crowd.

“I’m thrilled and overwhelmed,” Mitchell expressed. “There were so many impressive lookalikes. It was truly a tough decision.”
