The first image of Jeremy Allen White, known for his role in The Bear, portraying Bruce Springsteen in an upcoming biopic has been revealed as filming commences on the project titled Deliver Me from Nowhere.
In the photograph, White is depicted slightly bent over in a typical Springsteen stance, wearing a red plaid shirt, messy hair, and hands tucked into the pockets of a black leather jacket.
The movie is based on Warren Zanes’ book about the creation of the musician’s 1982 album, Nebraska, and is written and directed by Scott Cooper. Cooper’s previous works include Crazy Heart, which earned Jeff Bridges an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of a washed-up country singer.
“Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska has greatly influenced my artistic perspective,” stated Cooper in a press release on Monday. “The album’s raw, authentic depiction of life’s challenges and strength deeply resonates with me. Our film aims to capture that same essence, presenting Warren Zanes’ captivating account of Bruce’s life on screen with truth and optimism, paying tribute to Bruce’s legacy in a transformative cinematic experience.”
This is the first authorized biopic of Springsteen, who had a cameo in the 2000 film High Fidelity (as well as in the final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm) and has been the focus of several documentaries, including The Promise and Letter to You.
He also endorsed the 2019 film Blinded By the Light, based on the memoir by Sarfraz Manzoor about his admiration for Springsteen’s music and coming of age in Luton.
Deliver Me from Nowhere is set to be released next autumn; this winter will see the premiere of the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet, whose portrayal of the 1960s-era Dylan has been well-received.
