Arab-Americans, Muslims, and some young people are considering not voting for Kamala Harris due to the Biden administration’s support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah in Gaza and Lebanon.
However, this decision would be misguided. Kamala Harris has stated that she would actively push for a ceasefire and work towards a two-state solution.
In contrast, former President Trump has consistently aligned himself with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. He has not mentioned supporting a ceasefire or a two-state solution and has previously attempted to implement a Muslim ban during his first term in office.
Trump reiterated his unwavering support for Israel in a recent statement.
During a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump expressed his backing for Israel’s military actions against Hamas and Hezbollah. This stance may complicate Trump’s efforts to reach out to Arab Americans who believe he opposes the ongoing conflict.
According to sources familiar with the conversation, Trump told Netanyahu to “do what you have to do” during their recent call, which took place in October. Trump has publicly confirmed that he spoke with Netanyahu at least twice that month, with the most recent call occurring on October 19.
“While he did not provide specific military directives, Trump expressed admiration for the Israeli military’s actions, particularly the operation that targeted Hezbollah leaders using explosive devices concealed in pagers,” said Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), who was present during the call between Trump and Netanyahu.
Graham further emphasized Trump’s support, stating, “He encouraged them to defend themselves and acknowledged the need for change in the Middle East, particularly addressing the issue of the Palestinian state’s corruption.”
