Many people hurt in truck collision at bus stop in central Israel

Numerous people have been reported injured after a truck collided with a bus stop near an Israeli military base in what is suspected to be a deliberate attack.

At least six individuals are in critical condition and others are still trapped under debris at the scene in Glilot, just north of Tel Aviv.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

However, local reports suggest that armed civilians in the area shot and “neutralized” the truck driver after he intentionally rammed into people.

Israeli television channels showed police securing the area as emergency personnel assisted the injured and a helicopter hovered above.

“At 10:08 AM, a report was received in MDA’s 101 Emergency Call Center in the Yarkon Region of a truck hitting a bus stop on Aharon Yariv Boulevard in Ramat Hasharon.

“MDA EMTs and Paramedics are currently providing medical treatment on site to dozens of casualties,” Israel’s emergency services said in a statement.

A spokesman for Israel’s ambulance service quoted by Israeli newspaper Haaretz said many of the injured were elderly citizens who had disembarked from a bus ahead of a visit to the nearby Israel Defense Forces (IDF) base in Glilot.
