Former President Donald Trump currently holds a slight lead over VP Kamala Harris among Arab voters nationwide, as per a recent poll.
Trump has the support of 45% of Arab voters, while 43% are backing Harris, and Jill Stein is receiving 8%, according to a poll released by Arab News and YouGov.
Four percent of Arab voters are voting for Jill Stein, 6% are undecided, and 2% have chosen not to disclose their preferred candidate in this election.
When questioned about which candidate is more likely to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Trump’s lead expands to six points, with 39% of respondents believing he is more capable of bringing peace to the region, compared to 33% who think Harris could do so.
A majority of respondents feel that Harris is “more attuned to the national needs and issues of Arab Americans,” with 39% stating she is, while 31% believe Trump is more sensitive.
Harris has been facing challenges in gaining support from Arab Americans due to the Biden administration’s support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas.
In August, Muslim Women for Harris-Walz withdrew their endorsement and disbanded after a Palestinian representative was denied a speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention.
“We cannot, in good conscience, continue Muslim Women for Harris-Walz, given this new information from the Uncommitted movement, that VP Harris’ team rejected their request to have a Palestinian American speaker address the DNC,” Muslim Women for Harris-Walz stated at the time.
In 2020, President Biden was reported to have secured 60% of the Arab vote.
A poll published by the Arab American Institute in October showed Trump leading Harris among Arab voters 46% to 42%.
Arab voters are a crucial voting bloc in Michigan, a pivotal swing state that many view as essential to Harris’ White House aspirations.
Trump recently garnered the endorsement of Amer Ghalib, the first Muslim mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan.
“I firmly believe he is the right choice for this crucial moment,” Ghalib remarked.
The former president has criticized Harris for campaigning alongside former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, who played a key role in the Iraq War.
“Lyin’ Kamala has sunk to such levels as to select a woman who lost her Congressional Race by the largest margin, 40%, in history to campaign with her. The record holder is Crazed Warhawk Liz Cheney, whose father, Dick, persuaded Bush to enter the Middle East and KILL. Now Kamala expects Arabs to vote for her? I highly doubt it!” Trump shared on Truth Social.
