Richard Eyre, the director of The Iris and Notes on a Scandal, has chosen Uma Thurman and Anthony Hopkins to star in the romantic drama film The Housekeeper, with Phoebe Dynevor also joining the cast.
“Rose Tremain’s story delves into themes of love, fear, fiction, desire, ambition, death, and legacy – perhaps even on an epic scale. It presents us with intricately complex characters and unexpected shifts in audience empathy. The cast and I are excited to bring to life a story as rich and turbulent as the landscape it is set in, with Manderville Hall holding within its historic walls secrets and emotional intrigue,” Eyre shared with Variety.
The plot revolves around Thurman’s character Danni, a housekeeper at the historic Manderville Hall, owned by Hopkins’ Lord DeWithers. Danni finds herself entangled in a forbidden love affair with the beautiful novelist Daphne Du Maurier, portrayed by Dynevor.
