AMRUT, Housing for all and Smart City Mission are talk of the town since their launch a few months back. Following the path of Union Government, Maharshtra Government has planned to introduce the smart city scheme on its own.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis is leading the Urban Development Department of the state. Under smart city schemes of Maharashtra, Chief Minister is planning to cater the needs of numerous urban regions of the state which have shown some interest in transforming themselves into a smart city. These regions are those areas which couldn’t make it to the final list of Union government’s scheme.
35 cities of Maharshtra applied for funding under Smart City Mission, but only 10 could make through it. These cities include Mumbai, Amravati, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Nashik, Solapur, Nagpur and Aurangabad. Those cities which were left in the process will have to make a presentation before Union government to qualify for the last and final round.
